Construction notes (Revised 4/25/08): Since this was my first costume, it never looked how I wished it to look. For Cherry Blossom Parade 08 I decided to fix it up and get to how I always wished it to be. The original dress, made of casa satins, remained the same and was only taken a few inches on the sides and darts were added to the top to prevent puckering. The dress was made original using a modified girls ballet pattern. Arm armor and front emblishments were re-made out of craft foam and were embilished a bit to my liking. The belt was also re-made of vinyl and embellished with gold buttons. Original shield was made out of a pizza tray and decorated with paint, sculpty, and craft foam. Look below for how the new shield and sword were made. Boots and sword were purchased and painted white and then gold design was added using puffy paint.. Wig purchased from Coswox.com.
The New Sword and Sheild:
Sword was made of cardboard following Featherweight's
tutorial. and a lot of hardwork. Shield is a large cake pan with
styrofoam, paper mac he, and craft foam details.
Progress
shots
Since this was my first costume and long before I got a digital
camera I only have progress shots of when I made my new sword and shield.
Sword and shield after basic construction. Here you can clearly see the sword is cardboard based. The styrofoam was cut and shaped and then cover in paper mache to seal it and make it paintable.

The sword after I coated it what sculpting puddy. The puddy is easier to apply and easer to create a smooth surface for the blade .I think I did about 3 coats on each side, sanding to a smooth finish between coats.
This is the sword finished. It was painted with silver metallic spray
paint and the sealed with Future floor wax for protection and extra
shine. The center was done in acrylics and greek letters were painted
on as well. The hilt was also painted with acrylics and black leather
was attached for decoration.
**Note: this sword and shield was also made for my Sophitia costumes**
