Character: Jaina Solo
Version: The New Essential Guide to Characters costume
Series: Star Wars
When Completed: Oct. 2011
Reason: I was raised on Star Wars as a child, and the last few years as I have ben getting back into comic books my interest in Star Wars was as re-ignited. I really wanted to make costume from somewhere in the Star Wars universe, but I didn’t really want to dive into something that was really elaborate and time consuming (as this was a Halloween costume). I liked Jaina’s character a lot and I really liked the style of her Jedi robes, so Jaina it was!

Construction notes: When I made this I tried to be really mindful of the type of fabrics I used. I didn’t really want to use much, if any, synthetic materials in this costume since most Jedi costumes from the movies were done in natural materials such as linens, silks and leather. However, I don’t have access to lots of fabrics so I was only half way successful. The pants are made of moleskin and just have a simple elastic waist. I chose moleskin for its color and texture. It messed well with the other natural fabrics. Tunic and drapes are made of type of twill/stretch cotton. I modified a gi pattern to be a little more formfitting in the arms and waist in comparison to typical Jedi robes. The tunic is fully lined in a synthetic, as silk was not an option for me due to availability. The drapes are also lined in itself, and simply lays over the front of the tunic. Obi is made of linen and duponi silk and was a little bit of challenge to puzzle out. It stays on with a tie and flat hooks. Top belt is made of mostly leather and with a bit of pleather details. Hardware was from Tandy Leather. The hand guards are also made of leather and snap on. Scarf is cotton gauze. Boots are from Target. The hair is my own. Lightsaber is from http://www.ultrasabers.com.
